Singer/songwriter Lára Rúnarsdóttir makes personal upbeat pop music. Born and raised in Reykjavík Lára listened to her father’s classical guitar playing and followed him to recording studios when recording with legendary band Grafík. Through him she studied the writings of Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Nick Cave. As a young child she learned to play piano and as a teenager she took singing lessons and played parts in a few operas. She graduated from the music school in her hometown 2006 and played a role in Mozart’s Magic Flute. The year 2003 she dropped out of college when studying psychology and started playing guitar. The same year she released her first album, Standing Still. At the same time, she played gigs anywhere she could in the city with her guitar and piano. She performed concerts with Damien Rice in the year 2004 and played at festivals such as Iceland Airwaves, Innipúkinn and Aldrei fór ég suður. Lára was inspired by Stina Nordenstam and Cardigans when releasing her second album Þögn (Silence) in 2006, performing her songs in Icelandic. She then played a few concerts in Los Angeles, such as an opening act for Sarah Barailles at Hotel Cafe. In 2006 she moved to Madrid and performed her music in small bars in the city.
Now Lára is preparing her third album which will be out in October, the music being a bit different than on the last two albums.
