Ljósvaki’s musical expression is twofold. On one hand his music is a fusion of electronic instruments in a funk groove sprouted from his love of synthesizers and inspiration from the funk soul music/movement. On the other hand the subject of his songs often involve a spiritual nature, words of encouragement for the uplifting of mankind. Ljósvaki is the icelandic word for aether but a translation of the words ljós and vaki means Awaker of Light. Years of appreciating and creating music and a recent interest in meditating on matters beyond matter gave birth to Ljósvaki early this year, who started his journey by applying for Músíktilraunir (iceland’s battle of the bands) this april. His one man band’s performance won two awards, the competition’s second place and best programmer. One critic described it as “a buddhist healing session on stage in a catchy pop costume”. This summer he recorded and released an ep that is still available as a free download on his myspace.
