“..But the night belonged to Muck, one of the most promising hardcore bands I’ve seen for a long, long time. Yet, it’s not strictly hardcore, it’s like indie kids playing ultra heavy, experimental rock. The emotional intensity on stage was almost overbearing to see. I swear, tiny tears were rolling down my cheeck at the end of their amazing set“.
-[Morgunblaðið, Icelands most esteemed newspaper, in a review of Mucks concert at the heavy metal festival Eistnaflug in Icelands east fjords, summer of 2008].
The hardcore scene has been particularly fruitful the last couple of years. And it was at a release concert where likeminded trailblazers Celestine, an unbelievable post-metal band, introduced its first album that a young and promising group made its debut live appearance. Here was something different indeed; the band members stood hunched, forming a circle in front of the stage; while staring at the floor, intensely playing their instruments. Nothing else mattered indeed. They seemed to be as much interested in brewing up an avant garde noise maelstrom as playing crushingly heavy riffs. It was like watching Sonic Youth play some Converge tunes. This was a band to watch…
This was in February 2008, but Muck had formed in the preceding autumn. The members are Kalli (guitar), Indriði (guitar), Loftur (bass, replaced Maggi last december), Villi (voice) and Ási (drums), all barely in their twenties. After the debut gig things got on a roll and the band got quite a few offers to play, i.e. at the Icelandic Metal Festival Eistnaflug which is held annually in the east fjords. That summer songs started to take shape and the band went on to record it’s debut EP, Vultures. The record was eventually released on Icelandic extreme rock label Molestin Records in March, 2009. In July this year, Muck embarked on their first tour. Two weeks long with shows in Denmark and Germany. They also released a 4 song demo right before that was very different from what they had been doing..” -Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen
