Marta was 17 years old when she asked for guitar lessons for Xmas, she got a guitar instead. She didn’t touch it for a whole year, she thought that it wasn’t possible for her to learn how to play it. But one day she tried to play Hey jude and it sounded like Hey jude!
After that, there was no turning back and soon she started to write songs.
She lived in a small town called Ísafjörður for almost two years. When she first moved there she felt that everybody was watching her. She could tell on the faces of the locals that they were thinking “Who is this Marta? What is she doing here? Where did she come from?”. That is how the name Mysterious Marta became hers. Marta loved living in Ísafjörður, she was somewhere out of nowhere and had the mountains and the sea surrounding her and that is a big part of her music.
She used to have a mask painted on her face when she went on stage, that was part of Mysterious Marta, being a some kind of superhero that was not afraid of playing in front of people, ’cause Marta Sif was very afraid of it. Now she doesn’t need the mask any more which is good news.
Mysterious Marta has been playing for two years now. She has played at festivals like Melodica Acoustic Festival (In Hamburg and Reykjavík), Aldrei fór ég suður and Hafstraumar. This spring she won a competition called The cod war. COD music records have this competition every year to find new talents and this year Marta won. There were 135 bands that competed this year and Marta won 10 kg. of cod, box of Lýsi (liver oil) and a record deal.
Next year Marta will release her first album.
